Custom Desks for Your Workspace
A good desk is more than a tabletop with a frame. It is a workstation, a creative zone, a storage solution, a design object and often a permanent part of your living space. Especially in a home office, study, children’s room or open-plan living area, thoughtful planning determines whether a desk truly works or merely fits somehow.
With form.bar, you design your custom desk so that it fits your room, your style and the way you work. Length, depth, height, shape, material and frame can be individually adjusted in the 3D configurator. The result is not a standard piece of furniture, but a solution that works exactly where you need it.
Why a made-to-measure desk is often the better solution
Many ready-made desks are based on standard dimensions. That can work if the room, the use case and the existing interior happen to match. In reality, workspaces are often more complex: a narrow niche, a sloped ceiling, a passageway, a compact home office, a desk in the living room or a room that has to serve several functions at once.
A made-to-measure desk uses the available space far more precisely. It can be planned wider, narrower, deeper, more compact or more generous, depending on your needs. The height can also be adapted to your sitting position and body size. This creates a workstation that not only looks good, but feels noticeably better in everyday use.
## Configure your desk online and design it individually
In the form.bar 3D configurator, you plan your desk step by step. You define the dimensions, choose the material and decide what shape the desktop should have. This is where form.bar differs from many traditional made-to-measure furniture providers: the shape does not have to remain strictly rectangular. Curved, organic or asymmetrical lines are possible too.
This is particularly valuable when the desk is not only meant to be functional, but also to enhance the room visually. A gently rounded edge can create a softer impression. An asymmetrical shape can respond better to a challenging floor plan. An oval or freely shaped desktop can make the workstation feel more homely and balance out hard architectural lines.
The right size for your desk
The right size depends on how you work. For a laptop, notebook and occasional tasks, a more compact surface is often enough. If you work with multiple screens, documents, drawing materials, a keyboard or additional technical equipment, the work surface should be planned more generously.
Width is not the only important factor. Depth also has a major impact on comfort. A desk that is too shallow can quickly feel cramped. A desktop that is too deep may take up unnecessary space in smaller rooms. Before planning, it is worth considering what will permanently sit on the desk and how much freedom of movement you need in the room.
Ergonomics start with the right height
A desk should not only look good, but also match your sitting position. A classic desk height is often around 72 cm. Depending on body size, chair and working style, however, a different height may be more suitable.
Especially if you spend several hours a day at your desk, the right height makes a noticeable difference. A made-to-measure desk can therefore not only use the room better, but also improve your working comfort.
If you want to remain flexible in terms of working height, we also offer height-adjustable table frames for desk tops.
Two Ways to Get Your Custom Desk
Desk Top vs. Shelving-Table Combination
Not every workspace needs the same solution. That’s why form.bar lets you design different types of desks.
If you’re primarily looking for a custom workspace, you can design your desk using a tabletop in the tabletop configurator. There, you specify the dimensions, shape, material, and design of the tabletop. The result is a desk that perfectly fits your space, your seating position, and your interior design style.
If you want to combine a workspace with storage, a shelf-desk combination is the right solution. You can design this in the shelf configurator based on a shelf structure. The desk isn’t conceived as a standalone table, but as an integrated part of a larger piece of furniture. This results in custom home office solutions featuring a work surface, open compartments, closed sections, and space for files, books, electronics, or decor.
This second option is particularly practical for small rooms, living areas, kids’ rooms, alcoves, or workspaces under sloped ceilings. The desk not only makes the most of the available space but also creates order and looks like a deliberately planned part of the room.
Secretary flaps: the hidden workspace on the shelf
For particularly compact workspaces, form.bar also offers so-called secretary flaps. These are a special type of front panel for shelving compartments that opens downward at a right angle. The open flap can then be used as a small work surface.
This is ideal if you don’t want a desk that’s permanently visible in the room or if you only need a workspace occasionally. When closed, the piece of furniture looks like a tidy shelf or sideboard. When needed, simply open the flap and use the surface for your laptop, notes, writing, or quick work-from-home tasks.
A drop-leaf desk is particularly well-suited for small apartments, hallways, living rooms, guest rooms, or teenagers’ rooms. It creates a functional workspace without taking up space permanently. Combined with open compartments, doors, or flaps, it results in a piece of furniture that elegantly combines storage space and a work surface.
